I have been interested in photography since i left high school but funny thing is even though it was a subject i could have taken i never did. My interest was sparked by the chance encounter with someone selling an Pentax P30 SLR when i was in the shop browsing for a compact to take on holiday. I took some random shots and was stunned by the results even more than that the settings i had dialled into the camera were by chance as i really did not have any idea how to use the camera... 

I dont know how much i spent on film but i do remember actively seeking outlets that offered the buy one get one free films so that i could take maximum advantage of the time i spent with the camera. Well i was learning i kept telling myself... and here i am 20 years on still learning. The difference today is that theres no rush to the lab to hand over what i thought were my masterpiece of visions on film only to find most of the exposures were useless. Now armed with a digital camera the results are immediate and the feeling i get from seeing the image onscreen is just as exciting 20 years on as it was when i recieved the print back from the lab.

I remember successfully to a degree connecting multiple lenses to my pentax for a handheld telephoto image of the sun over Arthur Seat. Surprisingly the image was quite good in my opinion as a newbie to this photography lark. I was havving fun experimenting and i have never stopped experimenting since then and everything since then has been an experiment which is so much easier with a digital camera.

I do however keep a Nikon F80 film camera handy for those times when the digital camera battery runs out...
